The lyrics:

We Adore Theodore
By Tim McAvin

He was born in New York City in 1858
an asthmatic weakling,
but soon he would lift weights.
His eyes, they couldn't see.
His teeth were all buckee.
He took a great interest in natural history.

And his parents said:
We adore
(Sent him to Harvard.)
Theodore.
(Married Alice Hathaway.)
Couldn't want.
(Became a Republican,)
anymore.
(cyclone-assembly man.)
We'll afford
(Wife died in labor)
the best tutors
(the same day as his mother.)
for our boy
(Sister, take the baby!)
Theodore,
(It's off to the Badlands for me.)
our boy.

We adore Theodore's face up on Mount Rushmore.
Could we have a little more moustache?

Coffee-drinking, gun-shooting, horse-backing, we adore,
moose-riding, pole-vaulting, wrestler, Theodore.
Rope another steer.
Everyone stand clear.
Rhino-hooting, lion-sleeping, trust-busting, we adore,
civil servant, child-rearing, over-zealous, Theodore.
Eagle spread you wings.
What the future brings?

We adore
Trust-busting, soft spoken
Theodore.
stick-waving Theodore.
Couldn't want
Police Commissioner.
anymore.
Election winner.
We adore
Corpulent Theodore.
Theodore.
Bagism-shagism.
Couldn't want
Pelican-saving.
anymore.
stick-waving.

Island-eating monsters,
stepping-stones to the east.
Heart-hardened jingo,
can't control the beast.
Teddy's rough riders fought their way up the hill,
behind their fearless leader dressed to kill, kill, kill.

TIM MCAVIN

Tim McAvin is a St. Louis-based musician who spent his early musical years playing lead guitar and singing harmonies in numerous local bands. During the early 90s, after a successful run with Lydia¹s Trumpet, Tim broke off on his own to front the Draisyhoops, a Soft Boys-inspired three-piece rock band with major hooks, but all good things must end. After the Draisyhoops, Tim took up painting and focused his musical energy on strange recording projects. A milk crate full of disintegrating tapes and a basement full of wild paintings later, Tim fell off the radar, but reemerged in 2002 to contribute "We Adore Theodore" to the Dead Prez project.
