The Skuntry Museum is located in the Village of South Floral Park, NY, within smelling distance of the Belmont Park horse track. It is the official home of most Skuntry artifacts, including those collected over many years of traveling the country (and the world) in rock bands, those donated or bequeathed by artists of other generations whom we've befriended, and those we've stolen from construction sites and bars. The museum is also home to the Skuntry Library, which houses African novels, world folklore, books by our buddies, and the works of poets on the rosters of the Skuntry Verseball League, such as Les Murray, Anne Sexton and Frank O'Hara.Following a vicious attack by a mob of squirrels, the museum's primitive one-room structure now features a new roof, courtesy of Trustee in Charge of Physical Plant, Mark Walter. Actually, it features half of a new roof, as the construction project was abbreviated by the allure of beer and brotherhood once the offending squirrels' nest was removed and the leak patched. The physical plant is water- and squirrel-proofed, handsome, and it stinks of age and neglect. The Skuntry Museum is open to the public pretty much whenever we feel like it. Admission is by donation (not financial, mind you), and the curator has a day job, so send us plenty of notice via e-mail if you will be in the area and we'll try to accommodate your visit.
